NEW Bi-Monthly ONLINE Event
Do you want to be more involved in your local ASCE branch, but not sure how? Do you want to start networking, but not sure how?
Well, we have the thing for you! The ASCE Central Jersey Branch Younger Member Group will begin hosting general body meetings followed by coffee chats to facilitate both engagement and networking.
Online Meetings will take place the last Thursday of every other month from 6pm-7pm, and the general body meeting will last 15-30 minutes after which you will be randomly paired with another attendee – this is your opportunity to meet someone new or get to know someone better! Also, if it’s helpful, we’ll provide a topic and/or question to help facilitate the coffee chat.
Our next meeting will be Thursday, May 28, 2026 from 6pm-7pm, and we hope to see you there! If you're interested in joining (or just staying up to date on other events), feel free to download and add our "ASCE CJB YMG" Google calendar. 2026 ASCE Metropolitan Student Symposium at The College of New Jersey: April 17-19th
The College of New Jersey ASCE Student Chapter, in collaboration with ASCE National Group, hosted the annual Student Symposium! Eighteen ASCE Student Chapters from New Jersey, Long Island, and the New York City metro area gathered at The College of New Jersey for a weekend of competition, collaboration, and connection.
The ASCE Student Symposium is a highlight for civil engineering students, offering the chance to showcase their skills through hands-on competitions while also building their professional networks. Major events include the Concrete Canoe, Steel Bridge, and Sustainable Solutions competitions, with top teams advancing to the ASCE Civil Engineering Student Championships.
The Central Jersey Branch and Younger Member Group were proud to have several board members serve as judges. Louis Truppa, EIT, CJB Vice President, judged the Sustainable Solutions Competition on Friday, while Zachary Marinelli and Ted Green, Director and Past President, respectively, judged the Concrete Canoe Competition on Sunday.
We were incredibly impressed by the creativity, innovation, and dedication each team brought to the weekend. A huge thank you to the TCNJ ASCE Student Chapter for organizing such a successful and engaging event!
MARCH
Legislative Fly-In: March 18-20th
Bilal, the current president of the ASCE Central Jersey Younger Member Group, recently traveled to Washington, D.C., for his third ASCE Legislative Fly-In. Serving as the NJ Lead, Bilal worked alongside his peers to meet with congressional offices and advocate for resilient infrastructure, clean water reauthorizations, and surface transportation funding. This annual spring event is an intensive advocacy program that allows members to advance the Society’s policy priorities while developing leadership and public policy skills to bring back to their professional roles.
January
Thursday, January 22 at 6pm: Happy Hour #1
The Central Jersey YMG ran their first event of the new year at Winberie’s in Princeton! It was great to meet with multiple professionals and students and we thank everyone who attended! We’ll keep everyone up to date with our other events in the near future.
Thursday-Saturday, January 8-10th: ERYMC Conference
Last week, board members from the Central Jersey Branch and Younger Member Group attended the ASCE Multi Region Leadership Conference (MRLC) and Eastern Region Younger Member Council Conference (ERYMC) in Jacksonville, Florida!
This conference included interactive technical and social presentations as well as insightful information about ASCE’s societies and regions. Professionals and students had opportunities to collaborate and network throughout the conference and multiple social events around the city.
In attendance from Central Jersey was President-Elect Karam Choudhary, Vice President Louis Truppa, EIT and YMG President Bilal Awan, EIT. We also shared much of the weekend with board members from ASCE North Jersey Branch, ASCE North Jersey Branch YMG, ASCE South Jersey Branch, ASCE South Jersey Branch YMG and student chapter board members from NJIT and Rutgers University.
We want to thank all the branches and professionals who won ERYMC awards this year, and we are excited to see everyone in at next year’s MRLC in the fall!
